Kelim Gashgai Rug

The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking nomadic tribes living in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Kelims are reversible, flat-woven wool rugs featuring a characteristic slit-weave technique. This means that the weft has small gaps or slits where the colors change. These rugs showcase classic Gashgai motifs such as diamonds, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star patterns. Colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used.
